Services

Community Outreach & Virtual Support

Expanding access to services is central to our mission. We conduct ongoing outreach and utilize virtual platforms to meet survivors where they are:

  • Annual Chicago Westside Community Outreach & Annual Women’s Book Shut‑In events, where domestic violence education, resource distribution and survivor empowerment are core components.
  • A weekly virtual broadcast dedicated to domestic violence education, prevention and healing.
  • Virtual counseling and educational sessions to ensure continuity of care and accessibility for survivors facing transportation, safety or confidentiality barriers.

Counseling, Advocacy & Employment Support

Lightning Star Inc. offers a continuum of survivor‑centered services, including:

  • Trauma‑informed counseling and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence, as well as accountability programming for perpetrators.
  • Employment readiness & stabilization services—assisting with job applications, conducting mock interviews and providing guidance on appropriate professional attire and presentation—supporting survivor economic independence and aligning with OVW transitional housing goals.
  • Collaborative service plans that promote survivor healing and reduce risk factors for revictimization.

Our Approach

All services at Lightning Star Inc. are delivered using cognitive behavioral therapy, emotionally focused therapy, and other evidence‑based modalities within a trauma‑informed framework. Our practices are culturally responsive, non‑discriminatory and survivor‑centered. Although we are faith‑based, participation in spiritual activities is strictly optional and never a condition of receiving services, in full compliance with OVW and VAWA requirements.

Our sustained history across school districts, community outreach events, faith‑based partnerships and virtual platforms demonstrates that Lightning Star Inc. has the experience, credibility and organizational capacity to implement a transitional housing program for women survivors of domestic violence and their children.
